I know I've been remiss on posting on this blog, so thought I'd do an update.
I've been busy, though, writing newspaper stuff and working on short fiction.
New short-short coming: I recently revamped a short 100-word "drabble" that's been accepted to a new horror anthology. Stay tuned for details.
And... a surprising new idea: Actually, I had this idea awhile ago for a cozy-type mystery, but I let it sit. As often works for me, the idea recently came back to mind, more fleshed-out and looking pretty possible.
In fact, I'm kind of excited about it. Change is good. Sometimes you have to switch gears and "draw" on what you like to read. I've always enjoyed reading cozy and other mysteries. So, it's been part of one of my goals to actually write a full, standard mystery.
It's looking do-able, so I'm working on an outline. I want to make sure it goes where I want and that it can be completed before I share more details. Let's say, knowing me, I may slip a little light spookiness in it, too, if it works with the story.
I even checked that the idea hasn't been done - and it hasn't. It's a fun, retro-based idea and something I used to enjoy doing as a kid, too. I won't give too many details until I know it's going to work! So keep checking back for more hints and updates!

When her sister, Emma, is caught up in the latest zombie outbreak, Lizzie has no choice but to pick up her axe again...
Happy to report I have a new short story, "Jake's Nightmare" coming out in an anthology that'll be published by The Horror Zine. It's based on an old mine incident that I read about. I loved this story and I got some good suggestions from editor Jeani Rector. Excited to be in this! Some great sounding titles and authors. I'm really looking forward to reading this!

Summer Scares Giveaway - June 10 - July 4: Books, samples, previews and more! Great reads!
A chapter of history was closed on this date in 1927 with the death of accused but acquitted murderess Lizzie Borden. She died at age 67 on June 1, 1927.
It was the end of an era, yet the continuation of a never-solved mystery: Did 32-year-old Lizzie Borden hack her father, Andrew Borden, and stepmother, Abby Durfee Borden to death on August 4, 1892?
Lizzie was acquitted of the crimes after a two-week trial that garnered coverage from across the country. Sadly, we still don't know the full truth about what really happened that day.
Many, of course, say she committed the murders for the oldest of reasons, greed, jealousy, anger. Did she want more in life after taking her Grand Tour trip to Europe?
She certainly wasted no time after the murders, moving to a grand house up on "The Hill," the more prestigious part of town. That home, which she dubbed "Maplecroft," will be opening soon as a new B&B (see inside photos and story) by the same owners of her original home, the murder house and now the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast Museum on Second St. Stay tuned for more Lizzie news this month.
See another view of the murders in my books, Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter and Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter 2: The Axe Will Fall.
Lizzie Borden Dates in June:
June 1, 1927 - Lizzie Borden dies.
June 5, 1893 - Trial begins at New Bedford.
June 10, 1927 - Emma Borden dies.
June 20, 1893 - Lizzie Borden found “Not Guilty.”
Just got a few copies of the second edition of Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter to check. Looks good! Will be ordering more to have signed copies on hand. I really like the 5x8 size, too. A little smaller than the large paperbacks. Nice to hold!
I am so in love with the new cover and the covers for both books! (Btw, covers are by Juan Villar Padron.)
Happy Zombie Reading!
