The story continues in Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter 2: The Axe Will Fall... After the trial and being acquitted of murder, Lizzie thought her life would be "normal' again, but can it? When her sister, Emma, is caught up in the latest zombie outbreak, Lizzie has no choice but to pick up her axe again...
A chapter of history was closed on this date in 1927 with the death of accused but acquitted murderess Lizzie Borden. She died at age 67 on June 1, 1927.
It was the end of an era, yet the continuation of a never-solved mystery: Did 32-year-old Lizzie Borden hack her father, Andrew Borden, and stepmother, Abby Durfee Borden to death on August 4, 1892?
Lizzie was acquitted of the crimes after a two-week trial that garnered coverage from across the country. Sadly, we still don't know the full truth about what really happened that day.
Many, of course, say she committed the murders for the oldest of reasons, greed, jealousy, anger. Did she want more in life after taking her Grand Tour trip to Europe?
She certainly wasted no time after the murders, moving to a grand house up on "The Hill," the more prestigious part of town. That home, which she dubbed "Maplecroft," will be opening soon as a new B&B (see inside photos and story) by the same owners of her original home, the murder house and now the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast Museum on Second St. Stay tuned for more Lizzie news this month.
See another view of the murders in my books, Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter and Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter 2: The Axe Will Fall.

Just got a few copies of the second edition of Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter to check. Looks good! Will be ordering more to have signed copies on hand. I really like the 5x8 size, too. A little smaller than the large paperbacks. Nice to hold!
I am so in love with the new cover and the covers for both books! (Btw, covers are by Juan Villar Padron.)
Happy Zombie Reading!

** The Haunting of Dr. Bowen - Kindle SALE, 99 cents. March 12-18 **
(See page for US and UK links.) - ** Woo-hoo! #15,144 and #65 in Ghosts. I was even ranked next to Stephen King at one point!!)
Imagine the shock... Dr. Seabury Bowen, neighbor and physician to the Borden family, was driving his carriage home after 11 a.m., Thursday, August 4th, 1892 and gets home to shocking news. His wife, Phoebe, meets him at the screen door, telling him Lizzie came over and says her father was killed!
He rushes over, and despite being a doctor, comes upon a ghastly scene--his former patient and longtime neighbor Mr. Andrew Borden lying dead on the parlor settee, his face gashed and bloody. He is among the first visitors on the scene, as well as the first doctor. He later learns that the 32-year-old younger daughter, Lizzie, and the maid, Bridget Sullivan, are the only ones home at the time of the murder. Then, the stepmother and Mr. Borden's wife Abby Durfee Borden, is found dead, lying in an upstairs bedroom/sewing room, also bashed in the head.
The doctor finds himself in the middle of what becomes "the crime of the 19th century." His recorded testimony is the only time he shares his story of what happened that morning.
But what did he really think? Was he shaken, maybe even haunted by the horrific, and most unusual, murders?
GET HIS VIEWPOINT!
In The Haunting of Dr. Bowen, A Mystery in Lizzie Borden's Fall River, I share the doctor's point of view, and how the murders, and other events, may have affected the doctor. Did Fall River's past tie into the city's bloody legacy? (Light horror. This is a companion book to my book, Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter, but without the zombies.)
About the book:
Dr. Seabury Bowen—physician to the infamous Lizzie Borden—swears he’s being stalked by spirits, though his beloved wife thinks it’s merely his imagination. But the retired doctor insists that neither greed nor anger provoked the recent sensational axe murders in Fall River. Rather, he believes the city is poisoned by bad blood and a thirst for revenge dating back to the Indian and Colonial wars.
Now, two years after the Borden murders, Dr. Bowen is determined to uncover the mysteries stirring up the city’s ancient, bloodthirsty specters. Can he discover who, or what, is shattering the peace before Fall River runs red? Or will he be the next victim?
Part mystery, part love story, The Haunting of Dr. Bowen reveals the eerie side of Fall River as witnessed by the first doctor on the scene of the legendary Borden murders.
Hope you had a great start to 2018!
I started out the new year right with a great new review of my companion book, The Haunting of Dr. Bowen in the Jan. issue of Uncaged Book Reviews 4 stars!
Here's part of it: "... An enjoyable story to go along with Lizzie Borden (Zombie Hunter)... Though it explores a slightly different facet of the paranormal genre, it fits nicely into the world Verstraete had already built. Additionally, she added one last bittersweet surprise to the end of the book that reminded me of the story's predecessor..." - Kaitlin, see review online. (Jan. 2018, pg. 90)
What if Lizzie Borden's doctor was haunted by what he saw that morning in 1892, and by Fall River's past?
My novella, The Haunting of Dr. Bowen, is on sale for Kindle - only 99 cents, Dec. 11-18. * BUY HERE. Get the details here. (Paranormal, some light horror, mystery, alternate history)
Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter - What if everything you heard about the historic Borden murders wasn't true? (See details here.)
Yes, I started Nanowrimo, the write-a-book-in-November project. I had written some already on Lizzie Borden, Zombie Hunter 2, so I wanted to use it as a quasi-schedule to keep going.
I slacked off a bit, but got some done yesterday. I'm at just over 19,000 words, so not bad. I'll keep going to see where it leads. I am almost thinking of a shorter, novella length, which I really like. The Haunting of Dr. Bowen turned out to be a nice, readable length and a neat little book... But we'll see...
Left off at a good, exciting point... Lizzie going out late at night, alone, to meet someone who sent her a mysterious note... Whatever could go wrong?? heh-heh-heh...
